Chicken Casserole with Ritz Crackers
When it comes to quick and easy dinners, it doesn’t get much easier than this Ritzy chicken casserole.
The classic chicken casserole recipe is made with a short list of just 6 ingredients–some of which you likely have right now in your pantry.
It takes only 10 minutes to prep the chicken ritz casserole and then 30 minutes in the oven. You can’t beat that!

This chicken casserole is creamy, comforting, hearty, and just plain yummy.
The buttery Ritz cracker topping gives the dish the perfect bit of crunch to complement the creamy chicken. So freakin’ good!
If your family is anything like mine they will love it and ask you to make it again and again.
Ingredients
For this easy recipe you will need:
- Chicken: I use crockpot shredded chicken for casserole recipes but rotisserie chicken, canned chicken, leftover chicken, or any other pre-cooked chicken work also.
- Cream of chicken soup: I prefer Cream of Chicken Soup with Herbs as it gives the dish some extra flavor but regular cream of chicken soup or cream of mushroom soup can be used instead.
- Sour cream
- Italian Seasoning
- Ritz Crackers: Two sleeves of Ritz crackers roughly crushed. Bread crumbs or panko can be used in place of the crackers, but then it wouldn’t really be a legit Ritz casserole!
- Butter: Salted or unslated. I try to use unsalted butter if I have it on hand because I figure that the Ritz crackers are salty enough already.

I {mostly} had the ingredients for this so it was supper tonight using 1.5 cups of leftover rotisserie chicken, 3/4 cup sour cream so I added a little over 2 cups of almost cooked broccoli florets to fill out the dish. I did add some garlic and onion powders & black pepper. And I only needed 1 sleeve of crackers and 1/2 stick butter to fully cover the top of my 8 x 8 casserole dish It was DELICIOUS! Thank you for this very easy, tasty and forgiving recipe. I will make this again!
This was easy and delicious!! I think
Next time I will use 1/2 stick butter and 1
Sleeve of crackers. Definitely making again.
I made this last night and it was very good. I added bacon bits and a variety of seasoning but even as is this is a solid recipe. Will definitely make again.
I have made this very simple and easy.my husband loves it.
I didn’t pre cook the chicken, i just cubed it and am cooking it for 45min. I hope it works out!
I do not recommend using raw chicken for this recipe.
This is made frequently in our house & everyone loves it! I always layer white rice at the bottom of mine & tend to use garlic & onion powder as well. Tonight I used the leftovers of a rotisserie chicken & it was so easy and quick to make!
Made this today. Was so tasty. Think it could’ve used a second can of soup. I only used 1 sleeve of crackers. Family loved it…none left…lol
