For this grinch jello shots recipe you will need:
- Lime Jello – Give thes perfect color for the grinch theme. We used sugar free but regular works too. Just make sure that you get the 4 ½ serving size package, not the larger one.
- Water – one cup boiling water, and a half cup cold water
- Silver Tequila – turns the jello into shots
- Whipped cream & Maraschino cherries – for topping the shots before serving
- Plastic shot glasses
Additions and Variations
- Rim the shot cups with red sanding sugar or red sprinkles like we did with our grinch punch.
- Not a fan of tequila? Use vodka instead.
- Skip the cherries and add red sprinkles or a jumbo heart sprinkle to the top of the whipped cream instead.
- Make these non-alcoholic by replacing the vodka with cold water and serve as a family-friendly Christmas party dessert instead.
How to Make Grinch Jello Shots
Step 1: Combine jello mix and boiling water in a medium-sized bowl. Whisk for 2 minutes, or until the Jello is fully dissolved.
Step 2: Stir in the cold water and tequila. Allow the jello mixture to cool for 15-20 minutes at room temperature. Then pour evenly into shot glasses and refrigerate until fully set, about 2-3 hours (or overnight).

Step 3: Top each shot with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry before serving.

Expert Tips
- Place your grinch Christmas jello shots in a baking pan or muffin tin for easy transport to and from the fridge for chilling.
- Make your shots the night before your party or event so that they will have plenty of time to set.
- Use a disposable foil baking pan for easy party transport and clean-up.
- This recipe yields enough for 12 (2-ounce) plastic jello shot cups. If you are using larger shot glasses it will make fewer shots.
