Black Widow Venom Moonshine

Author: Jaclyn
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 10 minutes
Infusion Time 7 days
Total: 7 days 20 minutes
Both sweet and spicy, this black widow venom moonshine is sure to be a hit when it comes to flavor, but it also has a look that screams Halloween.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups of strawberries sliced
  • 40 Hot Tamales candy
  • 4 cups Everclear
  • 4 drops red food coloring

Instructions

  • To make a simple syrup: Bring water to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the sugar, and stir until it dissolves and a syrup liquid forms. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  • Place strawberry slices in a large bowl. Use a cocktail muddler (or fork or the back of a wooden spoon) to muddle the strawberries. Divide muddled strawberries evenly into 4 mason jars.
  • Divide simple syrup, hot tamales, and Everclear evenly into the mason jars. Add 1 drop red food coloring to each. Shake jars to combine ingredients.
  • Place in the refrigerator for about 1 week, shaking the jars every 2 days to help with the infusion process.
  • When ready to enjoy, strain through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer to remove any remaining candy and strawberry pieces. Pour back into jars and chill until serving.

Notes

To add a sparkle shimmer add 1 teaspoon of silver shimmer powder to each jar.
Store in refrigerator for up to 30 days.
The recipe yields approximately 48 ounces.
Everclear is very strong (190 proof) and I do not recommend drinking this “homemade moonshine” straight. I like to about 1 ounce to a glass of soda. However, you choose to enjoy it, be careful and do not consume more than is safe.

  1. This was NOT enjoyable at all. I’m thinking this should have more simple syrup or something. After waiting 8 days, it is still, as someone else called it, rocket fuel.

  2. I’m gonna try this recipe but I’m going to double the simple syrup and add more strawberry puree and water, I will update after I taste it.

  3. Looking for an update on this! Anxious to try it but agree the recipe sounds off. Doesn’t sound like enough water and sugar. Any advice would be appreciated!

    1. I feel the same. The mason jars will be basically empty with only one cup of Everclear in it and a handful of candy.

Needs a chaser of some kind. I used strawberry soda and ginger ale. The taste was way better. My friend added slow gin and strawberry soda.

I made this for neighbors, but didn’t get the glitter in time. I re-named it “Naughty and Nice Moonshine” for the holidays and it was a hit! (For fruit infusions, I always use and recommend buying organic) There was a good balance of heat and sweet, although I was only able to taste a little before bottling the gifts. I’ll have to make this again for the holidays, but came back now for the recipe to re-brand as “campfire” or “firepit” moonshine for summer 🙂 This combination was genius! THANK YOU!!!
