Ingredients

This section includes ingredient notes and substitution options. Get all measurements, ingredients, and instructions in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.

container of christmas sprinkles, box of knox unflavored gelatine, bottle of kahlua, bottle of Bailys Irish Cream, bottle of Butterscotch Schnapps, and bottle of whipped cream
  • unflavored gelatin – we used Knox Gelatine but a generic brand with the same size packets should work as well
  • Baileys Irish Cream – a sweet and creamy whiskey-basked liquor with a hint of vanilla and chocolate flavors.
  • Butterscotch Schnapps – I recommend De Kuyper’s Buttershots.
  • Kahlua – a rum-basked coffee liquor with a hint of sweet vanilla flavor
  • water – needed to make the gelatin
  • whipped cream – adds additional sweetness to the shots and helps dress them up for the holidays
  • sprinkles – just for fun!

Jello Shot Tips

  • Don’t skip the first step- “blooming” the gelatine by letting it sit in room temperature water for a few minutes. This step is crucial when working with knox gelatin to soften the gelatin powder and help it dissolve.
  • Make your jello shots the day before your party to give them plenty of time to set.
  • Add the liquid to a glass measuring cup with a spout for easy pouring into the shot glass cups.
  • Place your jello shot cups in a baking pan to make them easy to carry to and from the fridge.
  • This recipe yields enough for about 20-24 (2-ounce) plastic jello shot cups depending on how high you fill each cup. If you are using large cups or glass shooters the recipe will yield less.

Christmas Cookie Jello Shots

Author: Jaclyn
Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 10 minutes
Set Time 3 hours
Total: 3 hours 20 minutes
Christmas Sugar Cookie Jello Shots with Baileys Irish Cream, Butterscotch Schnapps, and Kahlua are a sweet Christmas treat for the grown-ups.

Ingredients

  • 4 envelopes unflavored gelatin such as Knox (1 ounce)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup Baileys Irish Cream (8 ounces)
  • ½ cup Butterscotch Schnapps (4 ounces)
  • ½ cup Kahlua Coffee Liqueur (4 ounces)
  • whipped cream for topping
  • christmas Sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  • Add water to a medium saucepan. Sprinkle gelatin on top of the water and allow it to sit for 5 minutes to allow the gelatin to "bloom".
  • Heat over medium heat, whisking until the gelatin powder is dissolved, about 2 minutes. Do not let the water come to a boil!
  • Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the Baileys, butterscotch schnapps, and Kahlua. Pour evenly into shot cups and refrigerate until set, about 2-3 hours (or overnight).
  • Before serving, top each shot with whipped cream and sprinkles.

Notes

I recommend making your jello shots the day before your party to give/celebration to give them plenty of time to set.
Place your jello shot cups in a baking pan to make them easy to carry to and from the fridge.
Refrigerate jello shots until serving.
This recipe yields enough for about 22 (2-ounce) plastic jello shot cups. If you are using large cups or glass shooters the recipe will yield less.
You can halve the recipe for a smaller batch by using 1 cup of water, 2 packets of gelatin, 1/2 cup Baileys, and 1/4 cup each of Kahula and the schnapps.
The recipe was revised on 12/16/22 after further testing to improve the texture and taste of the jello shots.

  1. sounds disgusting, first you have double the amount of unflavored gelatin needed it going to be to hard a chewy and just with water as the base it’s going to taste like watered down alcohol. if you expect it to taste like a cookie it won’t and there will be no sweetness.

    1. So you didn’t make them? Or if so, would love to know what you did to change up the recipe. I’m having a party and looking for ideas???

    2. They turned out great. I didn’t alter the ingredients at all and they did not taste watered down.

    3. I’m going to make these and switch the gelatin with jello pudding 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼Yummm

      1. I would love to know how they taste with pudding. I’m a vegetarian and don’t eat gelatin!

    4. Hi Cindy! I wanted to let you know that after testing the recipe several different ways I have come up with a new and improved recipe. I hope that you give it a try! The recipe still has no sugar added since I believe the liquors are sweet enough.

  2. The recipe says 4 envelopes of .25 jello mix.. only 1 oz of hello to 4 cups of liquid? Or should its be a 4 normal 3oz box and with less liquid to the normal ratio or 2 cups hot 2 cups cold?

    1. Regular jello has sugar and flavoring in it so it makes sense it would take less using unfavored and unsweetened gelatin.

    1. I agree with you, I followed the recipe, exactly, and it turned out like rubber. I was thinking of using half of the Jell-O amount.

      1. Hi Caroline, I wanted to let you know that I have updated the recipe (after receiving several comments like yours). I hope that you give the new and improved recipe a try again 🙂

  3. I followed the recipe exact and they turned out like rubber. I used the Knox gelatin.

    1. Hi Tina, after testing the recipe several ways yesterday I just gave the recipe a major update. The ingredients are the same but the proportions are a little different and the method has been updated. The shots were delicious so I do hope that you give the recipe a try again.

These were far too hard and rubbery. Do not waste your time! I was skeptical about the number of gelatin packets.

    1. I am very sorry that they did not turn out well for you. I tested several batches of these jello shots yesterday and have tweaked the recipe for better end results. The cookie shots were absolutely delicious following the new version of the recipe, I hope that you give the updated recipe a try.

  5. Tried the updated recipe today. I bring Jell-O shots to every family event and can tell you the recipe for this one isn’t there yet. The flavor is good but they still came out rubbery and inedible.

    1. Thank you for your feedback. They come out great for me (typically jello consistency, taste great) but it sounds like I need to troubleshoot the recipe some more. Unflavored gelatin sure is trickier to work with than typical Jell-o mixes. May I ask if you used Knox gelatin? If not, what brand did you use?

I wish I could have found the updated recipe she mentions, but there were no links to it on this page. I figured I’d give it a shot, despite several negative reviews. I followed the recipe and instructions to a “T”. Spent $10 on the gelatin alone and all the alcohol, and threw literal dozens away at a party with 20+ adults, most of whom were drinking. It seemed like it could be good, but my advice is to make a test batch. If you’re trying to impress at a holiday party, there’s a chance it won’t happen. It was embarrassing. Looked cute, but look for her other recipe and maybe try that. IDK, but this was a major flop. All due respect to the creator because to each their own.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy my sugar cookie jello shot recipe! Can you please give me a little more information on why the recipe was a “flop” for you so that I can troubleshoot? P.S. You mentioned that you were looking for the updated recipe but couldn’t find it- the recipe above is the updated version of the recipe.
