I’ve always been a big fan of Dot’s Pretzels and their incredible seasoning, but since the recipe is a closely guarded secret, I decided to try creating my own version at home. After some experimenting, I came up with a mix that I’d say is pretty close—full of bold flavor and absolutely delicious!

The first time I made these pretzels, they disappeared in record time. Now, they’re a regular in my snack rotation alongside favorites like my Garlic Ranch Pretzels, Alabama Firecrackers, and Spicy Chex Mix.

ngredients for seasoned pretzels, including butter, ranch seasoning, and spices, arranged with pretzel sticks.
  • Pretzels: I like to use “butter braids” which are buttery twisted pretzel sticks with lots of grooves that hold the seasoning very well. but you can use your favorite shape or variety, like twists, nuggets, or classic pretzel sticks. Just avoid ultra-thin pretzels, as they might not hold the seasoning as well.
  • Butter: Use unsalted butter for better control of saltiness. If you only have salted butter, reduce the added salt slightly.
  • Dry Ranch Seasoning: Look for a 1-ounce packet, often sold near salad dressings. Or make this simple ranch seasoning substitute.
  • Lemon Pepper: I love lemon pepper and use it to season veggies all the time so I keep it on hand. But you can substitute with a mix of black pepper and a small pinch of lemon zest if you don’t have it handy.
  • Kosher Salt: Larger flakes provide a balanced, less harsh saltiness. If using table salt, reduce the amount slightly.
  • Garlic Salt: If you only have garlic powder, use it and add a pinch of extra kosher salt.
  • Cayenne Pepper: For a little kick of heat just like Dot’s pretzel seasoning! Adjust between ⅛ and ¼ teaspoon based on your spice tolerance, or omit it for mild pretzels.

Pro Tip:

Line your baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 10 days.

Freezing is not recommended, as pretzels can lose their crunch.

Pretzel braids or twists are my top pick because their grooves hold the seasoning perfectly, but feel free to use your favorite type of pretzels.
