How to Make Donuts with Biscuits

Step one. Heat at least 3 inches of oil in a large Dutch oven or deep, heavy bottom pan over medium heat to 350° F. Top a baking sheet with a wire cooling rack and set aside. This will serve as a place to lay your fresh-out-of-the-fryer donuts.

Step two. While the oil is heating, cut out the center of each biscuit using a small cookie cutter. Stretch the biscuit just a bit to make the hole and biscuit donut slightly larger.

Step three. Fry each doughnut, just a couple at a time (do not overcrowd), until lightly golden brown and cooked through–around 60-90 seconds per side.

Step four. Set each fried donut on the cooling rack to allow the excess oil to drip off. Once all donuts have been fried, turn off the heat for the oil.

How to Store

While chocolate frosted biscuit donuts are best when enjoyed freshly baked, leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Enjoy at room temperature or better yet microwave them for 10 seconds to soften them up a bit and give them more of a freshly baked taste.

For longer storage, wrap biscuit donuts in foil then place in a freezer baggie to freeze for up to 2 months.

Recipe Tips

  • Skip the holes and make donut bars by stretching the dough into an oblong shape.
  • Be sure to test your oil using a candy thermometer. Incorrect oil temperature can cause soggy donuts, and noboday wants that!
  • Fry the dough from the center of your donuts up as well to make biscuit donut holes.
  • If the glaze is too thin, add a bit more powdered sugar. If the glaze is too thick, add a touch more cream.
  • Having a party? This chocolate glazed biscuit doughnut recipe can be easily doubled as needed.
