Ingredients
This section includes ingredient notes and substitution options. Get all measurements, ingredients, and instructions in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.
- Cupcakes – We used cupcakes made from boxed mix but you can also get out the mixer and use your favorite homemade vanilla cupcakes or chocolate cupcakes recipe. Black cupcake liners go perfectly with the witch hat theme.
- Ice cream cones – pointy sugar cones make the perfect witch hat.
- Vanilla frosting – Again, we used premade frosting for ease but homemade frosting would work too.
- Green food dye – I recommend a gel-based food coloring that won’t water down the frosting, such as this one.
- Black color mist food spray – to color the ice cream cone black. You could also dip the cones in melted black candy melts.
- Purple decorating icing and orange decorating icing – for adding the final details.
How to Make Witch Hat Cupcakes
This section shows you how to make the recipe with step-by-step photos and instructions. For the full printable recipe, see the recipe card below.
After baking your cupcakes in the oven allow them to cool fully on a wire rack.
Add store-bought frosting into a bowl.
Add green food coloring and mix until the desired color of green.
Using a piping bag and large star tip, pipe the green frosting onto the cupcakes. Then set aside.
Spray the sugar cones with black color mist.
Tip
Stand the cones on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy clean-up.
Set aside and let dry.
Once the sugar cones (witch hats) are dry, pipe the purple icing at the base like a ribbon. Use the orange icing to draw a buckle on in the center of the ribbon.
Set the sugar cone on top of the green frosting.
Serve with some hocus pocus Halloween punch for even more of a witch-themed treat.
I hope you enjoy this easy witch hat cupcake recipe and have a very Happy Halloween!
