To make your hot dog mummies, start by gathering all of your ingredients.

  • Crescent dough— If your grocery store has the crescent dough sheets, that would be perfect. Otherwise, you will simply need to pinch the crescent triangles together to form your own sheet.
  • Hot dogs— your favorite brand of regular hot dogs or all beef franks.
  • Candy eyes— You can usually find these in the baking aisle of your local grocery store. If all else fails you can order them online.
  • Decorating gel— Used as the “glue” to attach the mummy’s eyes. Dots of mustard would work as well.
  • Cheese— We like to add a half slice of American cheese to our crescent mummy dogs but you can leave the cheese out if you prefer. Or try a different cheese like cheddar or pepper jack.

How to make hot dog mummies with crescent rolls

Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 F. Prepare a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray or parchment paper and set aside.

Step 2: Roll out crescent dough on a large cutting board. If using crescent roll dough, pinch the seams together to form a single sheet. If using crescent dough sheets, you should already be all set.

Step 3: Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the crescents into thin strips of dough, which will be used as the pieces of fabric that the mummy will be wrapped with.

The decorating gel will be used as a "glue" to attach the eyes to the hot dog mummies when they are done baking.

Step 4: Place hotdogs on a clean surface, with a piece of cheese under each, if desired. Wrap strips of crescent dough around each hot dog, crisscrossing and stretching to cover it as much of the cheese and hot dog as possible. Place the cheese side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining hot dogs.

Note: If you are adding cheese to your mummy hot dogs try to wrap them well, using the strips of dough to cover as much area as possible. Because the cheese will find a way to melt out of any small space left open.
