Ooey gooey pull-apart monkey bread is one of my all-time favorite breakfast treats.

Truth be told, easy monkey bread makes a killer dessert as well. All that sugar — and in this case chocolate — make it the perfect treat for any time of day. Just like these OREO cinnamon buns.

Treat your family to a little something sweet this holiday season with this chocolate-stuffed monkey bread recipe made with biscuit dough.

While all monkey bread is delicious, this holiday monkey bread is especially amazing due to each little piece being stuffed with melted chocolate kisses.

Each bite is packed with flavor and oozing with chocolate. It is beyond incredible.

First, gather your ingredients and supplies.

Ingredients:

  • 2 packages biscuit dough (more details on this below)
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp. cinnamon
  • Hershey Kisses (any flavor)
  • Christmas sprinkles

Supplies:

  • bundt pan

We use store-bought biscuit dough for this monkey bread recipe, making it super easy to prepare.

You can use Pillsbury™ Grands!™ Flaky Layers refrigerated Original biscuits or any other flaky biscuit dough.

Biscuit dough laid out on a cutting board and cut into quarters.

Simple lay the biscuit dough out on a cutting board and cut each biscuit into quarters.

Pro Tip: Use a pizza roller to easily quarter the biscuit dough.

On left: a quarter of biscuit dough flatted and sprinkled with Christma sprinkles. On right: the same as on left but with Hershey Kiss added on top.

Then, working with one piece of dough at a time:

  1. flatten the dough
  2. add sprinkles
  3. add a kiss
  4. roll into a ball
Large zipper baggie filled with cinnamon, sugar, and dough balls.

Next, combine the white sugar and cinnamon in a large baggie.

Toss dough balls in the cinnamon sugar mixture in the baggie, a few at a time, until well coated. Then, place the balls in a prepared bundt pan. Continue until all dough balls are coated and in pan.

Melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Pour sauce over dough in bundt pan.

Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or until the outside of the dough turns deep golden brown.

Full monkey bread ring covered in caramelized glaze and topped with red, green, and white sprinkles, placed on a round wooden plate. Holiday decorations are visible in the background.

Allow to cool for 10 minutes then turn over onto a plate. Add more sprinkles — you can never have too many sprinkles in my opinion!

Now this should be obvious but is worth mentioning: do not cut your monkey bread.

Use your fingers to pull apart pieces to eat. Yes, it will be sticky and messy, but it is so worth it.

Serve with a glass of Christmas breakfast punch for an extra special Christmas morning breakfast.

Glossy Christmas monkey bread chunks topped with red, green, and white sprinkles are served on a small white plate over green plaid fabric. A larger monkey bread ring is blurred in the background.

I hope you and your family enjoy this Christmas morning chocolate stuffed monkey bread recipe and that you have a very happy holiday.

  1. When I make monkey bread I sprinkle cinnamon sugar and brown sugar mixture on the biscuit dough as stated and put in bundt pan to bake for 30-45 min (usually less than 45).

  2. Very yummy! One thing I would suggest is, if you can, change the language of the step where you make the mixture to toss the balls in to “combine white sugar and cinnamon”. When I read “combine sugar and cinnamon” I took that to mean all of the sugar, both kinds. So…a little improvising was needed gling forward haha. Maybe I should’ve just read the whole thing before I started to avoid my mistake, but I don’t want others to make a mistake too! Again, these are delicious and worth all the prep work!

    1. So glad that you enjoyed the recipe! And I can totally see why the language in that step of the recipe was confusing. I will make that change to the recipe text so that there is no confusion moving forward, thank you for letting me know!

  3. Does this amazing looking monkey bread need to be served warm or can it be made the day before serving?
    Thank you!
