The kids will love these spider Rice Krispies treats.

They are fun, yummy, and just a little bit creepy too. Perfect for Halloween parties and celebrations!

Get the kids in the kitchen to help make these kid-friendly Halloween Rice Krispies Treats. They can help stir the ingredients together, roll the treats into balls, and place the eyes and “legs” on the spiders.

Ingredients

All that you need are 5 simple ingredients to make these salty-sweet spider treats!

Spider Krisipies Treat Ingredients on countertop: bowl of marshmallows, bowl of chocolate krispy cereal, stick of butter, bowl of thin pretzels

You will need…

  • 6 cups Cocoa Krispies cereal
  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 (10- or 12-ounce) bag of marshmallows
  • 32 thin pretzels
  • 32 edible candy eyeballs
  • brown gel food coloring (optional, for dark brown spider treats)

How to Make Spider Treats

In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add marshmallows and stir until melted. Stir in a few drops of brown food coloring if a dark brown spider color is desired.

Remove pot from heat and add Cocoa Krispies, gently stirring until they are well coated.

Coat your hands in non-sticking cooking spray or butter. Scoop out about ¼ cup of the mixture at a time and roll / press in your hands to form a ball. Set them on a wax- or parchment-lined surface.

Time to decorate!

Press 2 candy eyes into the front of each spider.

For each spider, break the 2 large arched parts off of 2 pretzels to create the legs. Use a toothpick or skewer to make holes in the balls and gently press the pretzel pieces into them. If necessary, squeeze gently to secure the pretzels in place.

TIP: If the Cocoa Krispies mixture becomes too firm while you are still making your spiders, simply microwave it for 15 seconds or so to soften it back up again.

Hey lady, spiders have 8 legs!

Ok so you may have noticed that these spiders do not have 8 legs.

To be honest, breaking the pretzels and placing the pieces into the treats can become quite tedious. Plus, it would be difficult to actually fit 8 legs into the treat.

Most importantly, I think that they look just fine with 4 legs.

That said, if you wanted to make them with 8 legs I would suggest making them larger to accommodate all the pretzels.
