Ingredient Notes
This section includes ingredient notes and substitution options. Get all measurements, ingredients, and instructions in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.
- Mega Stuff Oreo Cookies – Essential for holding the Pocky sticks securely in place. Regular Oreos don’t have enough cream filling for this purpose, so be sure to pick up the Mega Stuff variety.
- Pocky Chocolate Candy Sticks – These create the spider legs. A 2.47-ounce pack contains about 28 sticks, enough for the recipe. Make sure to get the chocolate-covered ones for the right look.
- Black Cookie Icing or Melted Chocolate – Used to attach the candy eyes. Either works well, but melted chocolate can add a richer flavor.
- Candy Eyes – If candy eyeballs aren’t available, you can use small chocolate chips or dots of white icing as a substitute.
How to Make Oreo Spiders
This section shows you how to make the recipe with step-by-step photos and instructions. For the full printable recipe, see the recipe card below.
Prep: Separate Oreo tops and cut Pocky sticks into thirds.
Add legs: Insert Pocky pieces into the sides of the Oreos, pressing them into the cream, and replace tops.
Place eyes: Attach candy eyes with icing or chocolate.
Set: Allow the icing/chocolate on the fun treat to set for a few minutes before serving.
Pro Tip:
Create a spider assembly line with your kids to make the process faster and more fun!
Storage
Halloween spider cookies are a bit fragile, so they aren’t the easiest treat to store or transport.
If you must make them ahead of time, allow the icing or melted chocolate used to attach the eyes to set fully then store in an airtight container in a single layer at room temperature for up to 3 days.
In warmer climates, refrigerate them to prevent the chocolate and/or icing from melting.
Tips & Tricks
- Chill the Pocky sticks in the refrigerator before cutting to prevent the chocolate from melting in your hands.
- Gently twist the Oreo tops when removing them to avoid breaking the cookies.
- Apply icing or chocolate sparingly to prevent it from oozing out when attaching the eyes.
Variations to Try
- Oreo Pretzel Spiders – Use thin pretzel sticks instead of Pocky for a salty twist. The pretzels add a salty crunch to the Oreo spider cookies.
- Black Licorice Spiders – Swap the Pocky sticks on the Halloween oreos for thin strips of black licorice to create chewy spider legs with a classic Halloween look.
Chocolate-Dipped Spiders – Dip the entire Oreo spider in melted chocolate before adding the eyes for a richer, chocolatey treat.
