Ingredients

Ingredients for a boozy peppermint milkshake arranged on a counter: Breyers vanilla ice cream, a bottle of peppermint schnapps, whipped cream, a measuring cup of milk, and candy canes.
  • Ice Cream – Use your favorite brand of vanilla ice cream for the base of the milkshake.
  • Milk – Start with ½ cup and add more if needed to reach your desired consistency. Whole milk gives the richest texture, but any type of milk will work.
  • Peppermint Schnapps – This peppermint liquor gives the milkshake its boozy, minty flavor. Adjust the amount to suit your taste, or substitute with crème de menthe for a slightly different mint flavor.
  • Crushed Candy Canes – Place the peppermint candies in a zip-top bag and seal it tightly, removing as much air as possible. Use a rolling pin or meat mallet to gently crush the candies into small pieces.
  • Whipped Cream – Use store-bought or homemade whip cream for a fluffy, sweet topping.

Tips for the Best Boozy Shakes

  • Use Cold Ingredients: Keep your ice cream frozen and milk chilled for a thicker milkshake.
  • Blend evenly: Stop the blender to stir and scrape down the sides if the mixture.
  • Adjust Consistency: Add milk a little at a time until your milkshake is the desired thickness.
  • Serve Immediately: Enjoy right away for the best texture and flavor.

Cocktail Variations

  • Vanilla Vodka: Replace half the peppermint schnapps with vanilla vodka for a slightly different flavor.
  • Chocolate Peppermint: Use chocolate ice cream or add 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup to the blender for a rich chocolate twist.
  • Non-Alcoholic: Skip the peppermint schnapps and use peppermint extract (start with 1/4 teaspoon).
  • Mint Chocolate Chip: Substitute vanilla ice cream with mint chocolate chip ice cream for an extra minty milkshake.
