This homemade lemonade slushie recipe is quick and easy to make with fresh lemon juice, sugar, ice, and water – that’s it! The frozen lemonade slushies are ice cold, refreshing, and the perfect drink for cooling down on a hot summer day.
When the sun is blazing, keeping hydrated with fun and flavorful drinks is key! Peach Lemonade, Watermelon Lemonade, Homemade Ocean Water, and this lemonade slushy recipe are just a few of the easy drinks we like to whip up all summer long.
However, we’ve recently discovered that the only thing better than refreshing lemonade on a hot summer day is a big, tall glass of lemonade slushy! Put the word slushy in front of anything, and kids will think it’s the best thing ever. In this case, they’d be right!
Why you’ll love this recipe
- It’s an easy blender recipe that requires only 4 ingredients.
- The icy treat is made without the food dyes, high sugars, or artificial sweeteners a store-bought slushie contains.
- The recipe can be doubled or tripled as needed. As long as you have the ingredients, the drinks are bottomless!
Ingredients for Lemonade Slushie
This section includes ingredient notes and substitution options. Get all measurements, ingredients, and instructions in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.
- Lemon juice: From freshly squeezed lemons. It’s even better if you can get your hands on some Meyer lemons, although any will do.
- Granulated sugar: I use about 1/2 cup, but you can use more or less to adjust the sweetness to taste.
- Water: Use cold water to make slushy lemonade- you don’t want to melt the ice too quickly!
- Ice: Lots of crushed ice cubes takes the drink from a classic lemonade to a frozen lemonade slushie.
- Lemon slices: For garnish. You could also use mint leaves if you are looking for a pop of another color.
How to Make Lemonade Slushie
This section shows you how to make the recipe with step-by-step photos and instructions. For the full printable recipe, see the recipe card below.
- Add all the ingredients to a high-speed blender.
- Blend until smooth. Add additional as needed to get a slushie consistency.
- Pour into serving glasses and give each one a lemon slice for garnish.
Pro Tip:
A handheld lemon juicer is inexpensive and makes juicing lemons a heck of a lot easier. I don’t know why I didn’t invest in one sooner!
Storage
Unlike fresh lemonade, slushie lemonade can’t be made ahead, otherwise, the ice will melt.
However, if you want to make it, freeze it in ice cube trays, and then thaw it slightly before blending the ice chunks, you can try that.
Tips for the Best Lemonade Slushie Recipe
- Make sure the lemons are ripe, fresh, and juicy.
- Try using the palm of your hand to roll the lemons back and forth before cutting them in half. It makes them easier to juice.
- Add a little extra sugar to your slushies for added sweetness.
Additions and variations
- Swap the sugar. Use honey, agave, or maple syrup as a sweetener with a different flavor.
- Add different garnishes. Fresh mint leaves are also a fun way to garnish your beverage glasses.
- Use a combination of fruits. Add strawberries for a strawberry lemonade slushie, blueberries for a blueberry lemonade slush, blackberries for… you get the idea.
- Make it boozy. Add a splash of rum or vodka to make it an adult drink for pool parties and BBQs!
