Ranch BLT Pinwheels - easy party appetizer!

Ranch BLT pinwheels are a tasty appetizer packed with classic BLT flavor. Made with crispy bacon, shredded lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and ranch dressing, they are a fun bite-sized alternative to blt sandwiches. They are the perfect finger food for holiday parties, picnics, game day, or even the kids’ lunch box!

Slow cooker buffalo chicken dip, fried pickle sprears, and crockpot little smokies are my go-to party appetizer recipes. But sometimes I don’t want to serve a cold appetizer…

That is where these bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich roll-ups come in. They are easy to make, look beautiful, and taste like everyone’s favorite sandwich – what’s not to love?

Why you’ll love this BLT Pinwheel recipe

  • Easy to make. All you need are a few simple ingredients and about 15 minutes.
  • Can be made in advance. Make the pinwheel sandwiches up to 24 hours before serving!
  • They are kid-friendly. The kids will love the fun bite-sized sandwiches.
  • Great for parties and special occasions. Place the sliced pinwheels on a platter for a perfect party finger food.

Ingredients for bacon ranch pinwheels

This section includes ingredient notes and substitution options. Get all measurements, ingredients, and instructions in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.

  • Flour tortillas – We used small tortillas and paired them for rolling. If you have larger tortillas you may want to roll up one tortilla at a time.
  • Cream cheese – Let your cream cheese come to room temperature on the countertop before beginning so that it is easier to mix with the other ingredients.
  • Mayonnaise – I like to use Hellaman’s mayonnaise but you can use your favorite brand.
  • Ranch seasoning packet – Adds flavor to the dressing to take it to the next level.
  • Bacon – Cooked, cooled, and chopped or crumbled.
  • Lettuce – We used romaine but you can use another variety if desired.
  • Tomatoes – Finally the “T” in BLT. I like to use plum tomatoes or beefsteak tomatoes for BLTs but feel free to use whatever tomatoes you have on hand for this recipe.

How to make the easy BLT Pinwheels

This section shows you how to make the recipe with step-by-step photos and instructions. For the full printable recipe, see the recipe card below.

Step 1: Mix mayonnaise, cream cheese, and ranch seasoning in a small bowl.

Step 2: Lay 2 tortillas with their edges slightly overlapping. Spread the softened cream cheese mixture on the tortillas. Then add the bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes.

Two flour tortillas layed slightly overlapping on a cutting board. The tortillas are topped with creamy dressing, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and chopped bacon.

Step 3: Starting at one end, wrap tortilla rolls up tightly, like you would a burrito. Wrap the tortilla log in plastic wrap, twisting the ends to seal. Repeat the process with the remaining tortillas.

Step 4: Chill the wrapped tortilla logs in the refrigerator for at least one hour. When ready to serve, slice the tortillas into 1-inch slices and enjoy!

Storage

Store pinwheels in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Make Ahead

To make ahead, assemble the pinwheel sandwich logs, wrap in plastic wrap, and allow them to chill in the fridge until ready to slice into 1-inch sections and serve.

Recipe tips & tricks

  • Remember to soften the cream cheese by pulling it out of the refrigerator 30 minutes – 1 hour before you need it.
  • Don’t skip the plastic wrap step when rolling up the tortillas. Doing this helps them hold their shape.
  • Likewise, don’t skip chilling your tortilla roll-ups. The chilling time allows the flavors to meld together and the pinwheels to set.
  • Use a serrated knife rather than a regular knife to make slicing your little pinwheels easier.

Additions and Variations

  • Add cooked chicken or turkey for club sandwich style roll-ups.
  • Keep it veggie by omitting the bacon and adding more salad and vegetable fillings. Avocado, green onion, cooked and cooled roasted vegetables, or bell peppers will all be welcome additions to the pinwheels.
  • Try using avocado mayo instead of regular mayo for a different flavor.
  • Add sun-dried tomatoes instead of fresh tomatoes for a more intense flavor.

BLT Tortilla Pinwheels FAQs

Can I use a different type of tortilla for the pinwheels?

Absolutely! While the recipe calls for small flour tortillas, you can certainly experiment with different tortilla varieties. For a healthier option, you can try using whole wheat tortillas or even spinach tortillas for added color and flavor. Just make sure the tortillas are pliable enough to roll without cracking.

Can I make BLT Ranch Pinwheels ahead of time?

Yes, you can make Ranch BLT Pinwheels ahead of time. After rolling the tortillas tightly and wrapping them in plastic wrap, place them in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to serve, simply slice the chilled tortillas into one-inch slices.

Can I substitute ingredients in the ranch pinwheels recipe?

Yes, you can customize the ingredients in these easy roll-ups to suit your preferences. If you’re not a fan of bacon, you can leave it out or substitute it with cooked chicken or turkey. Similarly, you can swap romaine lettuce with spinach or arugula if desired. Feel free to get creative and add other ingredients like diced avocado or shredded cheese to make th recipe your own.
