What I really love about this tin can craft, is that it’s an inexpensive Dollar Tree Christmas decoration, just like our DIY sweater wreath!

Craft supplies can be expensive and really add up. It feels incredible when you can buy the supplies at Dollar Tree and make beautiful DIY projects like this for just a few dollars.

Floral Tin Can Craft Supplies

Save a large tin can from your kitchen, grab your hot glue gun, and get the rest at the Dollar Tree!

Can it get much better than that?!

Supplies:

  • large tin can
  • holiday napkins
  • foam brush
  • mod podge
  • ribbon
  • floral foam
  • floral sprigs
  • hot glue gun
  • Spanish moss
  • twine

The napkins we used didn’t come from Dollar Tree, but they do have a nice variety of holiday napkins to choose from.

So the only thing you need that can’t be found at Dollar Tree is the hot glue gun and tin can. Although if you look, there may just be a food product in a tin can at Dollar Tree. I just haven’t checked so I can’t confirm that one!

How to Make a Dollar Tree Christmas floral centerpiece

How to Make Tin Can Napkin Centerpiece

TRIM NAPKINS: Cut your one-ply napkins to size vertically and fit properly around the can.

APPLY MOD PODGE: Spread mod podge on the can using a foam brush and then smooth the napkins on. Add mod podge over the top of the napkins, being careful not to rip them; set aside to dry.

FILL CAN: Trim a piece of floral foam and place inside the can. Cut some wide ribbon and hot glue it to the inside rim of the can. Add floral sprigs to fill the can, pushing them down into the foam base. Then add moss inside the can to fill it and allow some to fill out over the edges.

DECORATE: Add some embellishments and twine to the outside of the can. You’re finished!

What are the best napkins to use?

For this project, it’s best to use single-ply napkins featuring your favorite festive holiday designs. If you have double-ply napkins, you’ll want to pull them apart prior to trimming for the best results.

What kind of embellishments could I add?

Anything you’d like! Holiday-themed charms work best so you can add them to the end of your twine.

Can I use a rusted tin can?

It’s not recommended, but you can certainly give it a try! Rusted cans may give you some trouble when applying the mod podge so they’re not great for this type of project.
