Pirate Treasure Chests
How fun are these edible treasure chests?
I just love how they came out!
Made with pre-made, store-bought Rice Krispies Treats, these pirate chests couldn’t be easier to make — no baking required!
Of course, if you would prefer to make your own Rice Krispies Treats, you can totally go that route as well. Either way works, I just love a nice shortcut like using the premade treats.
You also have the option of using regular Rice Krispies Treats or Cocoa Krispies Treats. Or both. Whatever you prefer!
Making the pirate chests is simple.
Unwrap all your rice treats and pair them up. It will take 2 rice treats to make each chest.
Now trim the top half of the chests to make them thinner. We trimmed about 1/3 off of them. This way the bottom of the chests is thicker than then top.
Then, trim the Laffy Taffy rope to form the lines on the top and bottom of each chest. Press the taffy rope onto the rice treats, being sure that the bottom and top line up correctly.
Next, use the taffy to create a small lock for each chest. Add the detail to the lock using your black edible pen. Press each half of the lock between the lines on the top and bottom of your treats.
You can fill the treasure chests with the candy of your choice, however, I do have some recommendations: rock candy, pearl candy, and Jolly Ranchers make great treasure. Gold coins and plastic swords are fun for decorating as well, but make sure not to use them in treats for younger children who might eat them!
Place candy on top of the bottom halves of chests, then place on the top pieces of chests. Make sure the backside is pressed down to look like the chest is hinged and in the open position, showing off the candy treasure inside.
Easy, right? And oh-so-cute!
