A simple slow cooker meal made with kielbasa, sauerkraut, apples, and beer for a savory-sweet flavor. Perfect over mashed potatoes, noodles, or on a sandwich roll!
Ingredients
2(12-14 oz) packageskielbasa, cut into 1-2 inch pieces
32ouncessauerkraut, drained
1sweet onion, sliced thinly
1apple, peeled, cored, and chopped
12ouncesbeer
⅓cuplight brown sugar, or to taste
3clovesgarlic, minced
2Tablespoonscaraway seeds
Instructions
Coat slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray.
Add drained sauerkraut to the bottom of the slow cooker in an even layer
In a mixing bowl, stir to combine beer, brown sugar, garlic, and caraway seeds. Pour over ingredients in crockpot.
12 ounces beer, ⅓ cup light brown sugar, 3 cloves garlic, 2 Tablespoons caraway seeds
Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or high for 2-4 hours.
If possible, give everything a good stir once or twice throughout the cook time. (Not required)
Stir before serving.
Notes
We usually use Miller Lite but any beer will work. You can also use hard cider.For an alcohol-free version sub 12 oz of beer for 8 oz of apple juice (or cider) mixed with 4 ounces of water.Serve with potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Also delicious as a sandwich served on sausage rolls or rye bread.Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days.Nutritional information below is estimated based on 24 ounces of kielbasa. It doesn't take into account the draining of the kraut, which will decrease the sodium.
