Treat yourself to a soothing and relaxing bath this holiday season with these easy and affordable homemade peppermint bath bombs. They also make a great DIY Christmas gift idea!
Equipment
3 bath bomb molds (I used a 2.2 inch mold)
Ingredients
1/2cupbaking soda
1/4cupepsom salt
1/4cupcitric acid
1/4cupcornstarch
1Tablespoonswater
2Tablespoonsfractionated coconut oil
10-12drops peppermint essential oil
4-5drops red or pink soap colorant
2-3candy canes
Instructions
In a large glass or metal mixing bowl, whisk to combine baking soda, epsom salt, citric acid and cornstarch.
In a small mixing bowl, add the water, coconut oil, peppermint essential oil, and soap colorant. Stir well to combine.
Very slowly, pour a little of the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. You want to add it slowly so the baking soda mixture does not bubble and become activated. Whisk to distribute the wet mixture. Add a little more of the wet mixture and whisk again. Finally, add the rest of the wet mixture and whisk well until fully combined.
Place some of the bath bomb mixture into your hand and squeeze it. If it clumps like wet sand, then you are ready to move on to the next step. If not, add about 1 teaspoon of water and whisk again. You want the mixture to resemble damp sand. Set aside while you complete step 5.
Put candy canes in a sealed plastic baggie bag and crush with a hammer or rolling pin. Place about 2 tsp of the crushed candy canes into each side of your bath bomb molds (6 total).
Press the bath bomb mixture into each mold, using a spoon or spatula to press the mixture down as firmly as possible. To ensure the two sides stick together well, overfill each half of the mold slightly. Bring both sides of each mold together and press down to close tightly.
Allow bath bombs to set fully before removing from mold (8-24 hours).
When you are ready to remove your bath bombs from the mold, tap lightly on the top of each bath bomb and then slowly lift the top mold off. Repeat the process for the bottom mold.
