A delicious, green, Shamrock shake is the perfect milkshake for St. Patrick’s Day! Made with mint chocolate chip ice cream, milk, and green food coloring, these delicious minty green milkshakes would also make a sweet treat for any day of the year.

Whenever February rolls around I start to get in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit and begin whipping up shamrock shakes as often as I can. They are so minty, creamy, and indulging – your family is going to just love them!

Plus, thanks to the green food coloring gel we use, they are the perfect shade of green to get you and the little ones in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit. (Adults, feel free to kick it up a notch with this boozy shamrock shake recipe!)

If you are wondering how to make a shamrock shake, it is easy and requires only a few ingredients. We used a standard blender but a hand blender stick would work just as well to make your shamrock shake.

This recipe makes enough for 1 (large) serving, but this recipe is easy to double or triple as necessary.

Ingredients

Half gallon of mint chocolate chip ice cream, gallon of 2% milk, leaf green food coloring, and 3 Andes Mint candies on countertop
  • 3-4 large scoops of mint chocolate chip ice cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2-3 drops green gel food coloring (we used leaf green)
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Chopped chocolate mints for topping (or sprinkles!)

How to make shamrock shakes at home

Making copycat shamrock shakes at home is super simple. It’s basically the same as making a milkshake.

First, add ice cream, milk, and food coloring to your favorite blender.

Cover and blend well.

Then, pour into a tall glass and top with whipped cream and chopped chocolate mints or sprinkles.
