Ladies, I want you to think back — way back — to when you got your first period.
My First Period
For me, my first period arrived when I was away for the week with a friend's family.
I remembering feeling very embarrassed and was compelled to keep it a secret. I didn't want my friend's family to find out.
I felt ashamed. I felt anxious. How would I get pads? How would I explain not being able to swim?
Of course, this all seems silly to me now. Looking back, I wonder why I wouldn't just tell my friend's mom that I got my period and needed pads.
But the truth is, my struggles with my first period are nothing in comparison to what many young girls have to go through each month when they get their periods.
Last week, Always released a new Always Live #LikeAGirl video addressing the issue of period poverty in the United States.
For the past week, I have not been able to stop thinking about the girls in this video. I struggled to get pads for 5 days when I got my first period. But these girls have to struggle every month.
Having access to pads is something that I take for granted, while others are having to miss out on the activities that they love each month because their families can't afford pads. Here is a scary statistic: Nearly 1 in 5 girls in the United States have had to miss activities because they can’t afford period protection.
Let's help get these girls back in action!
Stock Up and Give Back with the Always Live #LikeAGirl Donation Program
In an effort to help build girl's confidence and end period poverty in the United States, Always and Walmart are donating a year’s supply of period products to 50 teams in 50 states.
In addition, for every purchase of a 3-pack box of Always Pads at Walmart.com this January, Always will donate a pack to girls in need.
Going through puberty, and all the change that comes along with it is far from easy.
At a time in their life when so much is going on, young girls need sports and activities in their lives more than ever.
Sports & Activities Help Build Confidence
Did you know that girls actually experience a drop in confidence during puberty?
Being a part of activities that they are passionate about can work to boost confidence.
But, having to miss out on activities can cause girls' confidence to plummet even further.
No girls should have to miss out due to not being able to afford pads.
Talk about a win-win! I get to stock up on my favorite pads and help a girl stay in the activities that she loves.
Join me in stocking up this month to help give back.
Simply go to smarturl.it/WalmartAlways and purchase a 3-pack box of Always Pads.
That's it – each 3-pack box purchased will automatically trigger a donation!
