Inside: 11 things you don’t want to forget to pack for your upcoming family road trip + a chance to win a $200 Walmart gift card!
Is your family headed on any road trips this summer?
Our family is taking an 800-mile road trip from New Jersey to Chicago, as well as a few shorter trips down to the Jersey Shore.
I am counting down the days until we hit the road — I love a good road trip!
But being stuck in a car for 800 miles isn’t always fun times.
Our son gets bored, everyone gets hungry, and daddy gets tired of having to stop for mommy’s bathroom breaks.
Now I don’t want you to get me wrong. Traveling as a family is amazing and I am so grateful to be able to experience road trips together as a family.
I am just saying that there are times when I wish we would just get there already.
Between realizing that I should have packed more snacks to wishing I hadn’t forgotten to bring tissues when my son has a sneezing fit, doing a little bit of road trip preparation can make all the difference.
From my experience, planning and preparing for a road trip is everything.
Road Trip Survival Kit
So before heading out on the road this summer, I filled a bin with everything that would help make our road trip as awesome as possible.
A road trip survival kit, if you will.
I think it will be great to have everything in one easy-to-grab spot.
I know I can’t be the only one traveling with the family this summer, so I wanted to share my road trip kit with you all as well.
What to Pack for Your Family Road Trip
If my past road trips are any indication, having these 11 items handy on your next road trip will just help your entire trip run smoother.
1. Snacks
Snacks are first on the list for a reason: snacks are crucial for road trips!
RITZ Crisp & Thins have become a favorite in our house, so I made sure to include a few bags in our road trip kit.
You can only go so long in the car without getting hungry, and RITZ Crisp & Thins make the perfect grab-and-go snack.
They are delicious all on their own — no dip necessary — making them an ideal snack for a road trip.
2. Drinks
It is a good idea to have some water on hand for when you get thirsty.
Although, my husband would not approve of this blog post if I didn’t mention that you shouldn’t go overboard with beverages while on the road. The more you drink, the more pit stops you have to make.
3. Tissues
Sneezes happen. Be prepared with a travel-sized pack of tissues.
4. First Aid Kit
Safety first, right?
Pack a small first aid kit with bandages, alcohol wipes, and antibacterial ointment. Hopefully, you won’t even need to touch it.
5. Car Emergency Kit
Another “just in case” item.
Your emergency car kit should have a flashlight and jumper cables at the very minimum.
6. GPS
Whether on your dashboard or through a smartphone app, having a GPS programmed with your route is essential for any road trip.
7. Car Charger / Portable Charging Bank
Keep your phones and tablets charged up throughout your trip with a car charger or a portable charging bank.
This is particularly important if you are using your phone as your GPS.
8. Hand Wipes
Hand-wash on-the-go with a pack of antibacterial hand wipes.
When you want to pop open the RITZ Crisp & Thins but haven’t washed your hands since that last gas stop, you will be grateful you packed hand wipes.
9. Trash Bag
Bring along an empty bag to designate as a trash bag. This will help give the tissues and hand wipes a place to go so they don’t end up tucked inside your car door handle.
10. Sunglasses
Pack a pair of sunglasses for everyone in the family, even the little ones.
The sun is no joke, and you will be literally surrounded by windows.
11. Kids Activities
Help keep the kids from getting bored by bringing along plenty of fun activities to pass the time. Activity books, coloring books, and travel-sized games are all great to keep the kids occupied.
Since brand new toys keep my son engaged the longest, I bought him 2 new activity books just for this trip. I am hoping the investment in the new books will pay off by keeping him busy for longer than 2 minutes — or should I say miles?
Ready. Set. Road trip!
With our road trip survival kit within an arm’s reach at all times, this upcoming road trip is sure to be the best one yet.
Stop by your local Walmart for all your road trip supplies, including RITZ Crisp & Thins.
You will find RITZ Crisp & Thins in the snack aisle, near the crackers.
Be on the lookout for new RITZ Crisp & Thins Barbecue and Cheddar varieties — they are so tasty!
