Ingredients

This section includes ingredient notes and substitution options. Get all measurements, ingredients, and instructions in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.

container of christmas sprinkles, box of knox unflavored gelatine, bottle of kahlua, bottle of Bailys Irish Cream, bottle of Butterscotch Schnapps, and bottle of whipped cream
  • unflavored gelatin – we used Knox Gelatine but a generic brand with the same size packets should work as well
  • Baileys Irish Cream – a sweet and creamy whiskey-basked liquor with a hint of vanilla and chocolate flavors.
  • Butterscotch Schnapps – I recommend De Kuyper’s Buttershots.
  • Kahlua – a rum-basked coffee liquor with a hint of sweet vanilla flavor
  • water – needed to make the gelatin
  • whipped cream – adds additional sweetness to the shots and helps dress them up for the holidays
  • sprinkles – just for fun!

Jello Shot Tips

  • Don’t skip the first step- “blooming” the gelatine by letting it sit in room temperature water for a few minutes. This step is crucial when working with knox gelatin to soften the gelatin powder and help it dissolve.
  • Make your jello shots the day before your party to give them plenty of time to set.
  • Add the liquid to a glass measuring cup with a spout for easy pouring into the shot glass cups.
  • Place your jello shot cups in a baking pan to make them easy to carry to and from the fridge.
  • This recipe yields enough for about 20-24 (2-ounce) plastic jello shot cups depending on how high you fill each cup. If you are using large cups or glass shooters the recipe will yield less.

Christmas Sugar Cookie Jello Shots with Baileys Irish Cream, Butterscotch Schnapps, and Kahlua are a sweet Christmas treat for the grown-ups.

Ingredients

  • 4 envelopes unflavored gelatin such as Knox (1 ounce)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup Baileys Irish Cream (8 ounces)
  • ½ cup Butterscotch Schnapps (4 ounces)
  • ½ cup Kahlua Coffee Liqueur (4 ounces)
  • whipped cream for topping
  • christmas Sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  • Add water to a medium saucepan. Sprinkle gelatin on top of the water and allow it to sit for 5 minutes to allow the gelatin to "bloom".
  • Heat over medium heat, whisking until the gelatin powder is dissolved, about 2 minutes. Do not let the water come to a boil!
  • Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the Baileys, butterscotch schnapps, and Kahlua. Pour evenly into shot cups and refrigerate until set, about 2-3 hours (or overnight).
  • Before serving, top each shot with whipped cream and sprinkles.

Notes

I recommend making your jello shots the day before your party to give/celebration to give them plenty of time to set.
Place your jello shot cups in a baking pan to make them easy to carry to and from the fridge.
Refrigerate jello shots until serving.
This recipe yields enough for about 22 (2-ounce) plastic jello shot cups. If you are using large cups or glass shooters the recipe will yield less.
You can halve the recipe for a smaller batch by using 1 cup of water, 2 packets of gelatin, 1/2 cup Baileys, and 1/4 cup each of Kahula and the schnapps.
The recipe was revised on 12/16/22 after further testing to improve the texture and taste of the jello shots.

December 2023- I wish I read the reviews before I poured the Gelatine in the water to bloom…because this result was awful. I followed the directions EXACTLY as shown, and the texture was not Jell-O consistency at all. The flavor was ok, but I just couldn’t get past the rubbery feel. Yuck.
