Ingredients
This section includes ingredient notes and substitution options. Get all measurements, ingredients, and instructions in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.
- Cream Cheese – Make sure it’s softened for easy mixing.
- Lemon Oreos – We love the zesty kick of lemon, but regular oreos or golden oreo cookies can be substituted for a more classic flavor profile.
- White Melting Chocolate – I recommend using Vanilla candy wafers or almond bark because regular white chocolate chips are more difficult to work with.
- Pink Candy Melts – Use them for adding cute bunny details, but you can also use white chocolate dyed with gel food coloring for a similar effect.
Equipment
- food processor
- mixing bowl
- electric mixer
- parchment or wax paper
- baking sheet
- fork or candy dipping tool
How to make Bunny Butt Oreo Balls
This section shows you how to make the recipe with step-by-step photos and instructions. For the full printable recipe, see the recipe card below.
Step 1: Use a food processor to crush the cookies to fine crumbs. You will likely need to do this in two batches, depending on the size of your food processor.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the softened cream cheese and oreo cookie crumbs.
Step 3: Scoop out the oreo mixture and roll into 1-inch balls. Place balls on the lined cookie sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours (or overnight).
Step 4: Melt white chocolate in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth and melted (or as per package instructions). One at a time, use a candy dipping tool or fork to dip balls into the melted white candy. Allow the excess to drip off before returning to the parchment paper.
Tip
If the the Oreo mixture is getting sticky and difficult to work with, place it in the refrigerator to allow it to chill for 15-30 minutes.
Step 5: Pour the remaining melted white chocolate into a freezer baggie and snip off a tiny bit of the corner (or use a piping bag). Pipe a little bunny tail on each truffle. Then pipe 48 small round bunny feet shapes (or 2 per truffle) for each truffle onto a second parchment-lined pan. Place both pans in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes.
Step 6: Once chilled, melt pink chocolate in the microwave at 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until melted and smooth. Transfer it to a freezer baggie and snip the corner. Remove the bunny feet tray from the refrigerator and turn each one over. Pipe 2 toes and a foot pad on each. Return to the fridge to chill until set, about 10 minutes.
Step 7: Pipe a little bit of melted chocolate onto the back of each bunny foot and use it to “glue” a pair of feet to each oreo ball. Allow to set fully before serving or storing.
Storage
Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Freezer: Undipped oreo cookie balls can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before dipping and decorating.
Additions and variations
- Mini Marshmallow Tails: Before chilling, press a mini marshmallow into the center of each truffle for a fluffy bunny tail.
- Pink Sanding Sugar: After piping the pink chocolate, sprinkle pink sanding sugar over the melted chocolate for some added sparkle.
- Extra Lemony: Add 1 tablespoon of lemon zest to the oreo mixture for an extra burst of lemon flavor.
- Easter Egg Oreo Balls: Shape the oreo truffle mixture into an egg shape and decorate with different color candy melts.
Tips for the Best Oreo Cookie Balls
- Chill truffles thoroughly before dipping for best results.
- Use a small cookie scoop to shape the truffle dough into uniform-size small balls quickly.
- In a hurry? Place the balls in the freezer for 1 hour instead of chilling in the fridge.
Easter Oreo Balls FAQ
Absolutely! Regular Oreos will work just fine in this recipe. Feel free to experiment with different flavors for a unique twist.
If you don’t have a candy dipping tool, a fork works well for dipping the truffles in chocolate. Tap the fork on the side of the bowl to shake off any excess chocolate before placing them on parchment paper to set.
If you aren’t feeling crafy are prefer to buy them premade, edible bunny feet and tail candy decorations are often available in the baking aisle at big box stores and craft stores around Easter or via online retailers like Amazon. So far this year I have only seen edible bunny ears but it is still early so I am hoping they put out the feet soon too.
