10 Simple Ways to Stay Healthy in the Summer

During the summer months, many people are out and about more than they are at other times of the year. You might be visiting friends or family, taking vacations, or enjoying time at the beach or by the pool. However you decide to spend your time, it’s also very important that you stay healthy in the summer.

Here are ten simple ways to stay healthy in the summer:

1. Protect your skin from the sun.

10 Ways to Stay Healthy in the Summer

Although it feels nice and warm on a summer day, the rays from the sun can cause damage you might not see for years down the road. It’s important to protect your skin when out in the sun.

2. Eat a healthy diet.

Again, you should eat healthy all year round but summer is a time when many people neglect their diets. It can be very tempting to eat too much junk or to snack a lot. You might also be tempted to go through fast food places because it’s too hot to cook. Plan ahead so you can eat healthy, even in the hotter months.

3. Drink lots of water.

10 Ways to Stay Healthy in the Summer

You hear it all the time but it never stops being important. You need to ensure you drink a lot of water and in the summer when you are more likely to get dehydrated, it’s even more important. If you are like me and have difficulty drinking 8 glasses of plain water a day, give fruit-infused water a try. I find that it is much easier to drink water that has a hint of fruity taste.

4. Be safe around water.

Many summer accidents that happen involve water. People drown, or nearly drown in pools, the ocean, and even lakes. There is also danger associated with water rides and other water-related activities.

5. Avoid overexposure.

It’s easy to get caught up with having a good time and not realize you’ve been out in the heat too long. It’s easy to get heat exhaustion or even heat stroke when the temperatures are high if you’re not careful. Consider setting a timer to help you keep track.

6. Exercise regularly.

Summer is one of the best times for exercise. The weather is nice, it stays daylight longer and there are many opportunities to get out and get some exercise.

7. Take care of your teeth.

You should do this all year long but summer is a good time for a reminder about brushing and flossing, as well as getting your regular dental checkups. Many people take some time off of work in the summer, which can be the perfect time to fit in a dental cleaning.

8. Use alcohol responsibly.

10 Ways to Stay Healthy in the Summer
In the summer months, many people like to barbecue and party. Often there is alcohol involved. Just be sure if you do indulge, that you do so responsibly and don’t overdo it. Nothing ruins a beautiful summer day like a hangover and a pounding headache.

9. Sleep enough each night.

You should always try to get 8-10 hours of sleep each night so you can refresh for the next day.

10. Enjoy summer fruits.

10 Ways to Stay Healthy in the Summer

You should always eat your fruits and veggies but summer is a great time for enjoying cool, in-season fruits.

Now that you’ve seen the list, you’re ready to take care of your own health and wellness this summer. These are just a few tips to get you started. You can expand on them, and even use your own ideas to make sure this summer is all about your own health and wellness. Have fun and be well!

Great tips for staying healthy during the summer! 🙂 I actually find that my family is the most healthy during this season, as we are all so active and eat light because it’s so hot.

These suggestions are very helpful; I know I have very fair skin and get sunburns easily so I always make sure to use a high SPF sunscreen when I’m outside.

Great tips and obviously all of them are very easy to apply in everyday life! I for one, wear a ton of sunscreen all the time, and I double (and sometimes triple) my water intake!

This is a really great list. Sun exposure is #1 on my list since we burn so easily. We have a few family members dealing with skin cancer so it’s scary. #7 was a surprise but actually really smart!
